The popular mobile game was launched almost one and a half years after the game was banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, citing Section 69a of the IT ACT, 2000. The game was banned along with 50 other China-linked apps. The battle royale game had over 40 million of its 75 million globally monthly active users in India in January, according to analytics firm App Annie. In fact, ‘Garena Free Fire: Illuminate’ was the most popular app to be banned in India in February 2022.
